Davos 1917 Episode 1: Johanna
Swiss nurse Johanna Gabathuler (Dominique Devenport) returns heavily pregnant from her Red Cross mission on the Western Front to Davos, where her family runs the "Cronwald" sanatorium. While still in the maternity room, her father orders her illegitimate daughter to be taken away from her – for the sake of honor. Johanna is to marry the influential politician Thanner (Sven Schelker), who the family hopes will save the financially struggling “Cronwald”. Johanna takes refuge in her work at the sanatorium and meets the charming Dr. Mangold (David Kross). When she learns that she will also have to give up her job as a nurse after the wedding, she loses hope of ever being able to lead a selfdetermined life. It is thanks to Countess Ilse von Hausner (Jeanette Hain) that Johanna does not despair. The countess knows where her child is. But Johanna has no idea what a fateful deal she is getting herself into, as the countess is an agent for the German Secret Service ...
