Behind a popular tourist restaurant, an elderly lady in an elegant costume is found dead by the waitress. A wound on the temples, a hematoma on the wrist. Beissl recognizes the dead woman as town hall employee Alma Reger, mother of teacher Florian Reger. The waitress remembers that the dead woman had been a guest several times with a "younger" man. The day before, a table had been ordered for 5 p.m. in the name of Reger. The preliminary time of death is determined by the pathologist to be midnight, but the cause of death is initially unclear. A torn pearl necklace and a handbag are found in the outside area. The commissioners begin to investigate with the next relatives, however, Alma Reger had already been living in a noble senior citizens' residence for years after an inheritance. There, a Romanian nurse turns out to be her boyfriend, and her co-residents Gerti and Fritz don't seem entirely unsuspicious either...
